Miramelindo is an elegant, popular bar on the main cocktail strip of the born. Despite its tiny, almost camouflaged, entrance it could not have a better, more obvious location and is certainly well situated as a stopping off point on any devoted drinker’s touring route of the Barcelona playgrounds.
And that’s possibly my problem with the place; there just isn’t much play to it. Miramelindo is a large - three storey - bar with comfortable wicker furniture, nice lighting and a carefully planned image. The décor is light but not bright, and - that word keeps coming back into my head - the whole place is very elegant. It’s the perfect sort of environment for a quiet drink and a conversation - you would think. Miramelindo, however, is always packed. I’ve never been there after about 11.30 when it was anything less than totally heaving. Getting served at the bar can be a nightmare and the waiting staff, if you’re lucky enough to find a table without getting into a fight, are so busy that they are very short with the customers - or perhaps they are just generally rude, it’s hard to say.
It’s not just that the place is busy, there are plenty of bars I would praise for this very reason, it’s the poor service that the large number of customers forces and a general feeling of negativity. Due to its excellently decorated interior and comfy seating, even it’s bustling, though somehow a little dull, atmosphere, I can imagine Miramelindo being a real favourite for many. I would not therefore say that it is an essentially bad bar, but it also isn’t a place that I personally have enjoyed. More to the point, beer is a little overpriced and the limited, house selection of €4 cocktails aren't really that good. Yeah, it looks nice, but looks aren’t everything you know!
