It would be difficult to find a decent bar in many places with a better view than Mirablau. Ok I’m sure there are some decent places dotted round the globe, but the vista from the top of Tibidabo, one of the mountains overlooking Barcelona, is majestic at the very least, and the bar isn’t bad either.
The bar has two floors both with one whole wall of windows to enable you to marvel on the beauty of the city, from the bays around Badalona in the North to the Olympic torch on Montjuic and beyond. The bar has an excellent view of such monuments as Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia, the Gothic Cathedral, the magic fountains at Placa Espanya and the large illuminated penis on Av. Diagonal (or the Torre Agbar to give it its true name). The bar has an outdoor patio and in the summer there is also a separate section to the bar, just a little further down the road, for al fresco drinks with an equally impressive view.
The downstairs section of the bar doubles as a dance floor, though, as I have not seen it getting particularly busy, perhaps because I normally visit in Mirablau in the early evening or to catch the sunset. The whole bar is elegantly decorated and beautifully lit. The service is friendly and extremely professional which, along with the incredible location, elegant décor and higher than average prices give the bar a rather luxurious, exclusive feel. The bar operates a rather complicated two tariff pricing system. After 11pm on work days and 6pm on weekends and holidays all drinks go up in price by a fairly random amount (normally a euro or two).
A trip to Tibidabo, be it to see the super-gaudy Church of the Sacred Heart, a waltz around the fairground or just for a lovely walk, should always include a quick drink in Mira Blau. Yes the drinks are generally quite expensive but you’re paying for the atmosphere, service and the view. And besides, the cocktails are well mixed and they’re not really that different to town prices. My tip is to forget the extra euro per drink you’re investing and get there in the early evening to watch the day turn to night as Barcelona comes to life!
