Sister bar to Rubi, Milk is one of the swankiest bars (or “bar-bistros”) in Gotico. It’s eclectic, sophisticated décor does not give way to pretentiousness and is only one of the many attractive features of this comfortable, cosy venue.
Close to the Correos (big beautiful post office on Via Laietana), Milk is a little bit tucked away if you don’t know the area well but is definitely worth seeking out. Milk shares Rubi’s excellent cocktail menu, the happy compliment of a decent kitchen with an international selection of dishes and even the same staff. Both bars are run extremely well and all of the basic things that Rubi does so well – good service, selection and prices – are matched by Milk. However the atmosphere of the two bars is very different. Milk is more open with a somehow very homely feel. The décor is attractive and unique; a mishmash of designer wallpaper, comfy home furnishings and clever finishing touches (with some of the best decorated toilets in town.)
The bar is at its best at the weekend. In the day time it has a fantastic brunch menu including a tasty all day breakfast and delicious sweet pancakes, mmm. It tends to fill up so don’t be surprised if you have to wait for a table at these times, especially around Sunday lunch or whenever people are crawling out of bed.
Whilst the bar gets pretty packed some nights, Milk is not really the place for a wild night out but it’s great to spend a quieter evening there or as somewhere to head if you actually want to hear what your friends are saying to you. In this city of a million clubs and bars that may not sound like the most exciting option but sometimes it’s just what you need.
