You must see their basement! That’s not just my recommendation, it’s the demand they have posted up on the door. To be fair this slightly militant style of advertising worked on me and my friends who, back in the day, read the sign, went to look at the basement and stayed for a cocktail. And, yes, the basement is pretty cool, it’s got a nice atmosphere, its own little bar, good music and about 4000 tea lights scattered around the floors, walls and tables but it’s still not as cool as the upstairs.

As you enter you feel like you’re stepping into that “Field for the British Isles” sculpture by Anthony Gormley or, perhaps more obviously, a cave. The walls are curved and pockmarked by hanging stone formations, the bar looks like it has formed organically over millions of years and there are even tree stump like stools for you to sit on. It’s like an upmarket version of the ultra tacky Bosc de los Fades and at the same time comparatively cheap.

Los Cuevas del Sortes has one of the most comprehensive cocktail menus I have seen in Barcelona. There’s a very reasonable nightly happy hour and the drinks are big and generally good quality though there are some fairly flashy, flamboyant cocktails on the menu which don’t quite fit in with the ultra cool interior stylings. Los Cuevas del sortes is a unique looking bar in Barcelona with a nice atmosphere, good drinks and friendly staff, what more do you want?
